The Insolvency and Trustee Service has two registers:

  • The Insolvency Register
    The insolvency register contains details on current bankruptcies, No Asset Procedures and Official Assignee administered liquidations. The insolvency register also holds details of bankruptcies and No Asset Procedures discharged less than 4 years ago.



 

 

 

 

 

How to search

It is free to search the registers.

  1. Click on either SIO Register or Insolvency Register at top of screen.
  2. Enter the details. You can search using a first, middle or last name, by SIO number, or by a date range. The insolvency register gives you additional options.
  3. Click Search.

Register as a user of our website to get fast and easy access to our online services.

You must be a registered user to file claims or applications online with the Insolvency and Trustee Service.

Registering as a user means you can:

  • You can make an online application for bankruptcy, NAP or SIO through our application tool
  • It is easier to file a claim online if you are owed money
  • You can view a list and check progress of all the claims you have filed electronically
  • You can link your account with your creditor details held at the Insolvency and Trustee Service
  • You can link your account with multiple creditors
  • You can set the levels of access your users have to online services.

What will it cost?

It is free to use all of the online services available on the Insolvency and Trustee Service website.

How to register as a user

  1. Click on Do it online in the navigation menu.
  2. Select Create account.
  3. Enter your details - all fields marked with a red asterisk * must be completed.
  4. Click Submit.
  5. Choose a user name, password and secret question in case you forget your password in the future.
  6. Click Save.
  7. An email will now be sent to you with an activation link. Click on this hyperlink.
  8. Confirm your name and email address then enter your username and password.

 

 

 

Creating an organisation account is similar to registering as a user.

The first person who registers an organisation can then maintain athe branches and add users to the branches.

How to register an organisation account

  1. Click on Do it online in the navigation menu.
  2. Select Create account.
  3. Enter your details - all fields marked with a red asterisk * must be completed.
  4. To link your registration to an organisation, select this tick box at the bottom of the screen.
  5. Enter the organisation details - all fields marked with a red asterisk * are mandatory fields.
  6. Click Submit.
  7. Choose a user name, password and secret question in case you forget your password in the future.
  8. Click Save.
  9. An email will now be sent to you with an activation link. Click on this hyperlink.
  10. Confirm your name and email address then enter your username and password.

Once you have registered to be a user, you must activate your account before you can use it.

  1. Click on Do it online on the main navigation menu, and then click on Activate your account.
  2. Enter the activation code that was emailed to you, plus your email address, then click Activate.
  3. Follow the directions in the next screen and choose a user name, password and secret question in case you forget your password.
  4. Click Save.

 

 

All users of the Insolvency and Trustee Service website need to keep their login details up to date.

How to update your details

  1. Log in to the website.
  2. Hover your mouse over the Logon details button on red toolbar, then select Change logon details.
  3. In this screen, you can change your password, change how often your password expires, or change your email address. Enter the new details and click Save.

You can also change your secret question. You will get asked this secret question if you select Forgot my password from the login screen. The system will automatically email you a new password if you answer it correctly.

 

 

This option is for clients who have several branches within their organisation. If an organisation does not have branches, they are simply able to add users under their organisation name. View Add users to your branch or organisation below.

  1. Log in to your organisation account by using your login details.
  2. To add a branch, select Maintain branches.
  3. Click Add.
  4. Complete the required details and select Submit.
  5. To add another branch select Add.

You should now be able to see the branch you have added on your list.

Add users to your branch or organisation

To add a user to one of your branches or directly to the organisation account, select Register user account from the toolbar under Admin/security.

  1. Enter the details of the individual for whom you are signing up a username.
  2. From the drop down list, select the branch that you would like to add the user to and select Save.

A box will appear confirming that the details have been saved and the user will be sent an activation code via email.

Update your organisation details

All users of the Insolvency and Trustee Service website must keep their organisation’s details up to date. If your details change, log in to the website using your assigned administrator username and password, to amend your details.

  1. Log in by clicking Login at top right of screen.
  2. Hover your mouse over Do it online.
  3. Select Update personal details from dropdown menu.

In the screen that appears you can update your organisation’s physical and postal address, contact phone numbers and email address by changing the details in the appropriate boxes and selecting the Save button.

Maintain your organisation's user accounts

  1. Log in by clicking Login at top right of screen.
  2. Select Admin/security from tool bar.
  3. Enter the name of the user, for example, John Smith, and select Search.

To unlock the user, select Global Unlock. To remove a user, tick the box next to their name and select Remove.

Whilst you are bankrupt, you need the Official Assignee’s approval to leave New Zealand – it doesn’t matter if you are going for a short time or leaving the country permanently. You should apply as early as possible.

Apply for consent

The fastest way to apply is online, and you will normally get a reply within three working days.

  1. If you haven't already logged in, click on Login to enter your username and password.
    • If you filed your application for Bankruptcy or No Asset Procedure electronically you can use the same username and password to log in.
    • If you filed your application on paper, or were made bankrupt by the Court, you will have been sent an Activation Code when we first contacted you.
    • Select Activate your Account from the Do it online menu at the top of this screen and follow the instructions to get your username and password. Once you have login details, you can also use them to check the progress of your bankruptcy or No Asset Procedure in the future. If you cannot find your Activation Code, you can call us on 0508 467 658 for help.
  2. Click on Do it online and select Apply for approval to travel.
  3. Answer all the questions, then tick on the white box at the bottom of the screen to confirm that you have received and read the Notice to Bankrupt document that you were sent when you became bankrupt.
    Please note: if the contact details showing on the screen are not correct, click on the link to change them before you finish your application, so that we can send the approval to you.
  4. You can click on Save if you want to leave the application and come back later.
  5. When you are finished click on Submit to send your application.
  6. You will be sent an email to showing the application you have made.

You can also apply for consent by completing a paper document and sending it to the Official Assignee by email or post, but this is likely to take longer.

If your application is urgent, e.g. to attend a funeral, please complete the online application then contact your Insolvency Officer or phone the Service Centre on 0508 467 658 and let them know that the application is urgent.

If your bankruptcy or No Asset Procedure has finished, you can print off a copy of your record on the Insolvency Register. If it doesn’t show on the register, email and request confirmation of your discharge.
