Have your say on the draft Bill of securities law

19 August 2011

The Ministry of Economic Development is seeking feedback on an exposure draft of the Financial Markets Conduct Bill, a crucial part of the Government’s review of securities law.

The draft Bill regulates: how financial products are created, promoted and sold; and the on-going responsibilities of those who offer, deal and trade them. It aims to facilitate the development of an efficient capital market by encouraging the development of confident and informed investors, and assisting businesses to access capital.

The draft Bill rewrites a number of pieces of legislation, including the:

  • Securities Act
  • Securities Markets Act
  • Securities Transfer Act
  • Unit Trusts Act
  • Superannuation Schemes Act
  • Non-tax parts of the KiwiSaver Act.

Further information on the draft Bill and the review of securities law can be found on the Ministry’s website at www.med.govt.nz/investment.

Submissions on the draft Bill are due by 6 September 2011.
